Austria Zell Am See/Kaprun Zell am See is a town full of character, with a charming old centre and amazing views along its magnificent lakeside setting. The ski area provides an excellent vista of Lake Zell where traditional winter activities such as curling and ice skating take place. Zell am See is at the heart of the Europa Sport Ski Region, one of Austria’s best known ski areas, and a top destination for snowboarders. For a relatively small ski area, the slopes of Zell am See have a varied and challenging terrain. There are many long, fine runs and most confident intermediates will be capable of trying the well-groomed black runs. There are plenty of gentle blue runs for those wishing to improve or some testing red ones for those wanting more of a challenge. There are also small nursery slopes and many short and easy runs at Schmittenhöhe Mountain. This resort is perfect for beginners and intermediates and those wanting to perfect their technique. Zell am See is also well suited for boarders because of a high proportion of chairs, gondolas and cable-cars. There is a dedicated snowboard school and a terrain park on the Schmittenhöhe Mountain. The scenic lakeside town, with its pedestrianised medieval centre, oozes history and charm. Zell am See has much more to offer than just winter sports – there are water sports, classical concerts, festivals and theatre performances at the castle. The nightlife is also excellent and has something for everyone, with a wide choice of bars, bistros and discos offering great cuisine and live music. Click here for piste map
